TALA supports launch of Jo Hamilton vs The Post Office audio memoir

In the week that former Group CEO of Post Office Paula Vennells gave evidence to the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry, we helped Pougatch Media tell former sub-postmaster Jo Hamilton’s story from the kitchen table of the house she very nearly lost.

Played by Monica Dolan in the ITV hit drama series, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Jo is one of over 900 sub-postmasters prosecuted between 2000 and 2014 for shortfalls in their accounts.

Jo was persuaded to plead guilty to false accounting, but her case should never have come to court. Her conviction has subsequently been described as an “affront to justice”.

In a two-part podcast interview released on 22 May, Jo shared her journey, reflections and hopes for the future with renowned broadcaster Mark Pougatch in her uniquely self-deprecating, disarmingly funny and deeply poignant way.

Storytelling is at the heart of what we do at TALA, and there is no more compelling, tragic and disgraceful narrative than that of one of the biggest miscarriage of justice in British judicial history. We hope that sharing Jo’s story will help highlight the plight of the hundreds of individuals who are yet to receive any compensation despite having their convictions overturned and receive the justice they deserve.

You can listen to Jo’s full story on the ‘Talking Down Memory Lane’ podcast, an audio memoir series created by Victoria Pougatch for Pougatch Media: https://www.pougatchmedia.co.uk/tdml-podcast
